We're engaged!

"This is the moment when all I've done--all of the dreaming, scheming and screaming--become one. This is the day (see it sparkle and shine!) when all I've lived for becomes mine."

(Don't worry, he didn't propose at In-N-Out, but he took me there after--because he's the best!)

Spencer is the most amazing man I have ever met. I am blessed to have him in my life. He is kind, wonderful, and so good. It blows my mind that someone as wonderful as he wants to spend forever with me! We are getting married June 21st and we couldn't be happier! I can't stop smiling and thinking about how lucky I am. It's amazing how life works out.

Isn't that what life was made of?

"I'm sleeping, and right in the middle of a good dream, when all at once I wake up from something that keeps knocking at my brain. Before I go insane I hold my pillow to my head and spring up in my bed screaming out the words I dread."

It only takes a moment

Today I drove past SC, which is funny, because it's been one year, and today I downloaded and started listening to Bon Jovi, whom I haven't listened to since our first date when "Livin' on a Prayer" was playing in the bowling alley.

Isn't it interesting how things can change so suddenly, so quickly?

"Then a prince, then a moment..."

One moment you meet someone in the gym...another moment, you decide you don't care.

And then, for the next year, you experience random moments where you question that decision.

But then a plane crashes, the plane that could have been his, and for that moment you feel all the old anxiety.

"One peculiar, passing moment..."

And the next moment you see him driving down the street wearing a white shirt and tie. And you remember all the moments, the good ones and the bad ones, and you're grateful for those moments. Even though you did throw them away.

"Let the moment go. Don't forget it for a moment, though."

Positive Reflection

I have had a hard week. For tonight's blog, however, I decided to try something called "positive thinking" (if you have had a hard week, like me, you may need to look up the definition--www.dictionary.com).

Two things saved my day.

The best thing about my day: lunch with Jarom.

The second best thing about my day: having a whole bag of chocolate kisses in my backpack. All to myself. One more bright thing: we finally received our practicum placements (practicum starts on Tuesday). I am going to be in a first grade classroom at Barnett Elementary! Whoo...wish me luck--I'm gonna need it!

Happy birthday, Jarom!

He's the best. Seriously.

Update

So, more than a year ago I posted this. Now time has passed and I have some additional information. That summer was a pretty good one...

...but this summer has been the best of my life. Yeah. Take that, 2007.

PS: I could have used a different picture of us at the rodeo, but for some reason I really like my dad in the background sticking his finger in my ear.

A touch of nostalgia

2010

As I watched the ball drop from 2009 to 2010 , I almost started crying because I felt hopeless and lost. It was not the greatest start to a new year. Later that night as I got ready for bed, I found myself wishing that it was the beginning of 2007 instead. I thought I could make so many different, better choices if I had a chance to do it again.

But then I started realizing what the consequences for changing my actions would be. For instance, one of the first things I would do differently is breaking up with Jarom. But if I had never broken up with J, I would never have dated Scott. Had I never dated S, I never would have worked at Aspen Grove that summer.

Had I missed out on the opportunity to work at Aspen Grove, I wouldn't have met Alice or Mike D. If I had never met Alice, I wouldn't have developed a great friendship, or learned how to have fun, or how to get an A in religion. I wouldn't have moved out or met any of the amazing people in the BYU 210th ward. I wouldn't have met Ben or Thayne!

If I had never met Mike D, I never would have met Mike W. And I wouldn't trade that time for the world-MW is one of the funniest people I've ever met. If I had never met MW, I wouldn't have learned how to make proper fried rice, or how to have a Tim Tam Slam!! Also, I would have delayed watching The Dark Knight (actually, that wouldn't have been so bad...)

Well, I could talk about stuff that never would have happened for hours. But as I thought through this series of my life events, I realized that, although I've definitely been through some tough times, each experience helped me grow and shape my life in amazing ways...and I love what my life is becoming. I wouldn't trade any of these experiences for the world.

So, 2010, I'm glad you're here.

Also...bring it on.

How I met his mother

So, when we were talking to SCs family last night I realized that the story is kinda funny, and I really need to write it down. Of course, what better place to write a funny story than my blog? I hope you all can share in the joys of my life.

It was a fine September afternoon. One of my TELL classes was canceled, which was fine with me because that meant 2 1/2 hours of extra time! With that extra time I decided to go to Curves. I got there and started on the circuit, completely absorbed in my own little world. I remember that I was reflecting on the most recent chapter of my life and looking at any room for improvement.

Then a man walked in the door. It was like the most exciting thing that happened that day! I mean, it's not that men NEVER come into Curves, but it is uncommon. I was intrigued, so I watched as a woman who was on the circuit went to greet her husband and exchange keys with him, or something. It was a good way to break up the monotony.

After I finished, I was stretching when the same woman (the one with the husband) leaned over to me. This is the conversation.

Sister C: You are so cute!
Me: This happens all the time...Thanks!
Sister C: Are you in high school?
Me: Do I really look like I'm still in high school? Sad! No, I'm a junior at BYU.
Sister C: Oh, do you have a boyfriend?
Me: I see where this is going...No, I don't.
Sister C: Well I have this son-his name is SC-he just got home from a mission in January. He's really nice and quiet and tall. I want to set you guys up!
Me: Sweet! This is great!! That sounds good.
Sister C: Oh perfect. He's at UVU on scholarship studying aviation...
Me: Uh oh...a pilot?!! Awesome!

Seriously, even though he likes to fly, it's been great. He started texting me a few days later and the rest, as they say, is history.

Maybe one of you thought that was funny. I think it is. I have the best Curves Success Story ever!

8 is great

So last night I did not get very much sleep at all. But today at work I felt really happy, like I wanted to talk to all the missionaries and laugh and have fun! This was weird because lately I've been feeling bored and a little bit annoyed at work-I go through phases like that.

Anyway, somehow my mind made the connection: Oh! When I don't get a lot of sleep, I am happier the next day!

And then I remembered that 1. That didn't make sense and 2. Correlation does not equal causation, so I investigated further and realized: maybe I am happier not because I got less sleep last night, but just because last night was a good night.

Yeah. That makes more sense.

Random picture of January 2009

Once again I am lacking interesting things to blog about, so here is a picture. Guess who these rocker feet belong to. The person who guesses correctly can...decide what I should blog about next (I don't know, it sounded good in my head).

Stay tuned for an inevitable exciting blog that will be appearing at the end of the week.

Healing

A summer of healing is what this is.

Yesterday, Abby and I went to Grandpa Murray's house so we could go on a walk with him. He and I have been planning on going on a nice outdoor walk since his accident, and yesterday was such nice weather and he was feeling great, so we went. It was the first time he's really been outside since he left the hospital--and it's been awhile.

First of all, he was walking really fast-faster than I could walk with my boot on (funny story about Grandpa: In the hospital, just a few days after breaking his neck, the nurse came and got him to do some walking. They were walking up stairs and Grandpa was just booking it. The nurse couldn't even keep up. That's Grandpa for you).

Second of all, I'm sure we looked a fantastic sight. People probably had a hard time telling who was helping who-Grandpa, with his neck brace, was holding Abby's hand. I, with my boot, was holding Grandpa's arm. It probably looked like Abby was our physical therapist or something.

Anyway, it was funny, and I am grateful that Grandpa is doing so well. He is an amazing man, and I'm so blessed that he's my grandfather. Every moment we spend together is a teaching moment-he has helped me so much. I love him.

Oh, come on.

It's just like Little Mary Sunshine. I've done it before, and I can do it again!...at least, that's what I have to keep telling myself.
"And for your sake my lonely heart will ache and quake and break. If you do not return, my heart will yearn and burn, so please return. Then..."
