I am reminded of something funny

So back in the summer of 2004 my sisters and I were in Oklahoma! at the Shell. We had a great cast...the boy with the perfect color of red hair was even there! Anyway, we had fun. One of the stage managers was this girl, and I can't recall her name exactly but I think it may have been Rebecca, and she was down syndrome. Her biggest annoyance was that our cast was loud backstage. Every night in our traditional cast meeting circle she would say, "You guys need to be quiet backstage or I will give you a power-house slug!"

This continued night after night, until finally one night my grandpa said, "Hey! There will be no power-house slugs going on!"

Rebecca, as we'll call her, thought for a moment and then replied, "Fine....then I'll slit your throat!"

Needless to say, we were quiet after that.

During our last rehearsal at the indoor theater we spent the majority of our time sitting in this nook by the locked door. That is how exciting rehearsals can get.

Rehearsal

Rehearsal today was boring. The "appliances" basically got kicked out of the dance. So for the majority of the time we sat in back and ate popcorn from a huge trash bag.


Yes, rehearsal was very boring. Until Rob filled in for one of the napkins...

Rejection

I just recently came across this picture for the first time. It's from State Fair, which was about ten years ago. I played a little girl (named Violet, incidentally) who got set up on a date with an older man through a misunderstanding. We had our own dance number and everything.

So, in honor of SCERA shell weather...

My sisters and I have been working on a list of what we love most about doing shows at the shell. And when I say that we've been "working on a list", I mean that we brainstormed for 5 minutes on our way to the mall. Anyway, this is what we came up with. It is definitely not complete, just the beginning. And so, our list:

• Free drinks (powerade lemonade combo)
• Cute boys
• It's really easy for us to sneak into shows (we actually have a pass, so it's perfectly legal, but we call it "sneaking in")
• Meeting new people, forging new friendships.

It's finally here.

On Thursday I stepped outside at about 6:00 in the evening, and wow...it just hit me. It's finally Scera shell weather. I sat there for a minute in the warm wind and memories totally overwhelmed me. I could feel the shell-the sounds, the smells, the excitement. It was so cool, and, as lame as it sounds, it made me incredibly happy. I just love going to the shell during the summer. I didn't realize how much I actually look forward to this time of year.

Last summer, Rob talked about how he wanted our cast to become like one big family. It happened, and that's probably my favorite part of the shell. The relationships formed over the rehearsal period are so great. I love having a second family during the summer. Also like Rob said, sometimes sad things happen in families, but it just brings the family closer together.

So, I can't wait to go back to the shell. Plus, they're showing Newsies there on September 7. How could it possibly be any better than that?
